The Wines of Mexico Dinner: September 27, 2019

Patrick Beso

Join Patrick Neri and Lisa Strandberg, owners of Beso Imports, as we explore the wines of the Valle de Guadalupe. Tucked away in the mountains of Mexico’s northern Baja region, these wines are one of the best kept secrets in the world of wine. Taste the wines from small boutique estates that are reshaping the way the world thinks of Mexican wine. Beso Imports is the first to bring these wines into Washington and they have put together an impressive portfolio composed exclusively of Mexican wines they hand selected themselves from many trips to the region. The paired dinner will focus on a number of the wines from their collection.Beso Wine

One of the oldest wine regions in the New World, Valle de Guadalupe has a long standing history of wine making that extends back over 200 years. Today these old vines, which deliver complex and concentrated fruit aromas and flavors, are combining with a growing base of seasoned and young enthusiastic winemakers to create some of the most talked about wines in the world of wine.

Old and young vineyards flourish in the Valle in a growing climate that has many parallels to the Mediterranean. Here, an average temperature that is tempered by the Pacific Ocean, combines with large diurnal temperature swings to provide all the warm sunny days the grapes need to ripen alongside the equally essential cool nights that provide the plants with a chance to respire and draw up the acids necessary to keep the wines bright and fresh on the palate. As almost all major grape varieties one can think of grow extremely well in this setting, it is now widely being recognized as a near ideal growing climate.

This will be a memorable evening as we showcase five wines, the best of the best, paired with the local bounty of the surrounding San Juan islands. Enjoy great food, friends, and learn about these remarkable wines. Chefs Ryan and Tim have created a seasonal menu perfectly paired to the wine. There will be one seating at 6 p.m. $55 food and $35 wine. Reservations are definitely recommended.

Make a night of it and stay at one of our Inns, part of the San Juan Island Inn Collection for $129/night when joining us for this special dinner.
