Friday Harbor Restaurant and Schooner Team Up for Fundraiser
Last year Coho Restaurant and Schooners North teamed up to donate a private dinner aboard the schooner Spike Africa as a fund-raiser for the San Juan Community Theatre. The enthusiastic winners finally had a chance to get out on the boat last week.
On one of the most warm, beautiful days on the water, the Spike Africa headed out of Friday Harbor in the direction of Lopez Island for a 3-hour sail (yes, a 3-hour sail for you Gilligan’s Island fans.) With a fair wind, the crew was actually able to hoist full sails and make headway without the engine.
The theme was Pirate Day, but it may as well have been Rum Day. Judging by reports, the food was fabulous, and the free-flowing Mojitos even better. Do I hear an “Aye, Matey”!!?
Chef Molly cooked up pan-roasted wild caught salmon with an heirloom tomato salsa; a medley of summer vegetables from Mossy Knoll Garden and our own Chef’s Garden; lavender-scented roasted potatoes; a green salad from our Chef’s Garden and Mossy Knoll Garden with a cider vinaigrette and whole grain mustard. The topper was the Rum Rum Rum cake. Pirates never had it so good! Oh yah, I hear it now, “ARRRGH!”
Unfortunately, it wasn’t until after all the food was devoured that someone remembered to break out a camera. But all made it back to fair San Juan Island, full of fun and cheer. Here are a few scenes from the day, shared with us by the lucky bidders.
