Wine Picks – Spring 2013

  Obsidian Ridge Syrah 2010, CA – 100% Syrah from Obsidian Ridge Vineyard North of Napa Valley. This wine has aromas of coffee, tar, leather and spice with blackberries and a finish of charred oak on the palate. $30 McCrea Vineyards, Sirocco Blanca 2010, WA – White Rhone style blend made with 47% Grenache Blanc, 32% Marsanne, 16% Rousanne and 5% Picpoul. Dick Boushey, the winemaker uses the only bearing blocks of Grenache Blanc and Picpoul in the state. This versatile food friendly wine has notes of citrus, vanilla and toast with hints of stone fruit. It is viscous and syrupy but not sweet. $16 Emilio Lustau East India Solera Sherry, Spain -  This dark amber hued non-vintage East India Solera is blended with Pedro Ximenez grape. This luscious sherry has notes of maple syrup, brown sugar, spice, raisin and a balanced acidity that tempers the sweetness. Pair with a cheese plate, fruit and nut based desserts (pear frangiapane torte, dutch apple pie) or crème brulée. $26
