Sake Seminar & Pairing Dinner – October 26, 2018

Is sake served in tiny cups because it is high in alcohol? Is sake always served hot? Is sake a rice wine? Is sake only enjoyed with sushi? If you are confused about answers to any these questions, join us on Friday, October 26th at the Coho Restaurant. We are pleased to welcome Hideyo Hayashi, a Certified WSET (Wine & Spirits Education Trust) Level 3 Sake Educator. She will lead us in a seminar and tasting and will demystify all the myths about sake. Chef Ryan will prepare a series of small Japanese inspired bites (dumplings, tempura, edamame) for the seminar paired with the three main sake styles - Junmail, Ginjo and Nigori. The sakes we will taste are:

Masumi “Mirror of Truth   (Junmai style)

Dewazakura “Cherry Bouquet” (Ginjo style)

Gekkeikan Nigori   (Nigori style)

After the seminar, she will host a 5-course dinner showcasing the different styles of sake.

Chef will prepare 5 courses including western and Asian fare to showcase the diversity of sake and how food-friendly it is. Sake, like bubbly pairs well with a wide range of dishes. Chef's draft menu includes tuna sashimi, black cod with soba noodles, brazilian nut encrusted pork, sauteed clams, olive oil cake. We will post the menu shortly! These evenings are always memorable and sell out. So please plan on joining us for our final special event dinner this fall celebrating Savor the San Juans. The sake seminar is 75 minutes beginning at 4:30 and is $25 including a series of small bites. Dinner follows beginning at 6 p.m. after a short reset of the dining room. A special package price for the sake seminar, 5-course dinner and sake pairing is $100 plus tax and service. Receive a $25 credit on the purchase of 5 bottles of sake if you attend the seminar. If you prefer an a la carte option, the 5-course dinner is $55 and the optional sake pairing $35.
